  1. Hey um ya nice question and all its helping me with my geo quiz but is this Andy Bird? Its Megan 4th period.

  2. I think these are all kinds of wind.

  3. Yes, the Above poster is correct.

I'm sure this is for homework, so I will lend a brain cell.

A chinook wind gets it's name from the Apache tribe. It is a strong wind that forms in the western mountains of the US that is caused from intense surface heating on the leeward side of a mountain, combined with the cool, moist windward side. Therefore circulation sets up on the leeward side kicking up dust throughout the Mojave Desert.

A Norther wind primarily affects the Northeastern United States. It is the result of warm, moist air from the ocean being modified by an incoming polar airmass. The result is a strong northern wind along with a low lying marine layer. Winds have been recorded as strong as 120mph with a Norther. Do not confuse with a nor'easter.

Santa Ana Winds affect primarily the L.A. Basin. They are winds that caused by a high pressure system that sets up over the Mojave, usually causing southerly winds on the back side. These winds are funneled through the mountains, therefore increasing the wind speeds. These can contribute dangerously to wildfires throughout the SOCAL area.

Hope I have helped you in some way.

  4. high winds.... usually created by subsidence from mountainous areas and can be very strong... 100mph strong
