To who belongs the north pole?

iv heard,that russia have most of north pole,and is very rich with oil,gas etc.

  1. As Mike says, the North Pole belongs to no one because ... it's only frozen water and it's moving all the time with the current.

    But the seabed is another thing. Yes, the Russians have supposedly sent a submarine that has planted a Russian flag on the seabed under the pole but most believe that it is just a prank.

    However, there is a strong fight for the until now unclaimed seabeds of the world. Not only for fossil fuel like oil and gas but also for minerals.

    The islands of Spitsbergen are already contested for their sovereignty. While their administration was given to Norway by international agreement, the Russians  have been mining there for a long time and they show keen interest in the fishing waters ... and what's under it.

    Most likely, those polar regions will remain international and untouched because of their fragile ecological systems, as it is already for Antarctica.


  2. Since the true north pole is over an frozen ocean that is over 200 miles from any shore line, that would make it in international waters.
