To whom do we send sympathy cards?

My husband's grandmother died this morning and we're not sure who we should send sympathy cards. His father has five siblings (some are speaking to each other, some are not) and my husband is only in touch with one uncle. Who should we send cards to? Just my in-laws? To all of his grandmother's children? To the six siblings and all of their children?

  1. I would send them to everybody. even if they speak to each other or not. they all are suffering from losing a loved one.

  2. Send a card to all - not the kids though - include them in the adults cards to whom they love with...

  3. I think a sympathy card should be sent to whomever you feel sympathy for and want to show it to.  They will all feel the loss but a card is an expression of your (or your and your husband's) sympathy.  Let that make your decision!

  4. Send a card to anyone who can be considered "next of kin." This means all the grandmother's offspring. Send to all the grandmother's grandchildren, also. It doesn't matter who's speaking to whom and it's better to send too many cards than too few.

  5. Well them send it to the uncle. Nothing worse then receiving a sympathy card from some person in the family who has had no interest in you before the death.
