  1. You need to apply for a Skilled Working visa and you must pass a points test and meet health and character requirements.

As a legal practitioner, you must make application to the State Legal Admission Authority (SLAA) for admission as a barrister or solicitor in the State or Territory in which you wish to work. Once you have been admitted as a barrister or solicitor, you do not need to make application to a SLAA for a skills assessment, as evidence of your admission in the relevant State or Territory (e.g. certified admission certificate) itself constitutes a skill assessment.

See: http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/1121... for points allocated to your profession, and for information relating to skills assessment.

See: http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-s... for the points test.

See: http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/index.htm for all information relating to visas and immigration.

  2. You will have to have a practising certificate if you want to practise as a lawyer.  Different states have different requirements but  it is unlikely that you will be allowed to practise straight away.

  3. You will most likely have to continue your studies here as you will need to have a thorough knowledge of Australian law and practice.  However, the Law Council of Australia has information for you on the appropriate authorities you would need to contact in each of the states and territories for their individual requirements. Each state is different.

    Hope this helps!
