To write articles optimized for SEO, do I just have to use a certain keyword or is there more?

I've been writing search engine optimized copy for over 10 years now.  Below you will find a few tips to help you!

Utilize headings <h1> for your pages main topic

Utilize sub-headings <h2, h3, h4 etc.> for sub-topics within the page

Use bold  or strong to emphasis the keywords within the body copy

Use hyperlinks to link related pages together

When linking related pages together ensure that you use textual links with the keywords in the link text

Try to cover real substance in your web pages by answering specific questions you know your web visitors may want to know.

There is more to article marketing than just picking out any ole keyword, first you must see if that keyword is being searched online and by how many then search the competition on that keyword.  If it works out write an article with that keyword or phrase.  Then do it again with another keyword....write, write, write those articles.

You don't have to be computer savvy. U need to have a certain percentage of keyword density and make sure the sentence are written in a nice way.
