To write love on her arms meaning...?

I read the story for "To Write Love on her Arms" but I still don't understand what the purpose of the whole thing is for. I see all these people wearing the shirts and having the stickers etc.

Is it just because these people liked the story or is there more of a purpose and meaning behind it?

It's a independent sort of "rehab" for kids and people that are 'troubled.' TWLOHA was set up to raise money to help rehabilitate the girl when normal rehabs stopped taking her/saw her as a risk.  Now it is an outreach program for cutters and addicts.

Instead of writing "f*** up" on your arm with a razor, they want to help heal the wounds that have sunken even deeper...
