Tobias Kamke, Sebastian Rieschick into the main rounds – If Stockholm Open 2011
Seeded at number three in the qualifiers, Tobias Kamke of Germany powered his way to the main rounds of the If Stockholm Open, after defeating the seventh seeded, Andrey Golubev from Kazakhstan, in the qualifying competition on Monday.
Being played on the indoor hard courts of Stockholm, Sweden, the contest witnessed a brilliant display of quality tennis from Kamke, who wrapped up victory in straight sets, 6-1, 7-5, to oust Golubev from the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World
Tour 250 event. The German took merely one hour of play to conclude his comprehensive victory and booked a berth in the main draw of the tournament.
It was a magnificent display of dominance from Kamke, who bettered his opponent in every segment of the game to come out as the winner. He blasted his way in the opening set, nailing two straight serve breaks to the opponent to get one up early and then
consolidated his position in the following set to wind up victory.
Kamke’s 74 per cent precise serve earned him 28 out of 35 first serve points and he converted four of his 10 break opportunities en route to victory. Golubev crafted merely one break point in the entire matchup and it wasn’t enough to contain the belligerence
of the German opponent. A total of 106 points were played in the contest and Kamke secured 67 out of them, with the Kazakh competitor lagging far behind at 39 to finish on the losing side in the end.
Kamke will play his opening match of the main round against the eighth seeded Spaniard, Tommy Robredo.
Sebastian Rieschick of Germany also made it to the main draw of the If Stockholm Open, after he defeated the unseeded Czech competitor, Ivo Minar, in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, in the qualifying competition.
Rieschick proved too good for Minar to tackle in the contest and cruised through the two sets to register a convincing victory. The German belted 76 per cent of his serve on target and secured 35 out of 53 first serve points to come out as the winner. Rieschick
converted four of his seven break opportunities in the competition, with his opponent registering two out of his five chances to finish on the losing side.
Rieschick will take on the local wildcard entrant, Michael Ryderstedt, in his first main round match of the If Stockholm Open.
