Tobias Kamke blows away Pablo Andujar in opening round – PTT Thailand Open 2011
Misery continues for the world number 44, Pablo Andujar of Spain, as he crashed out of the opening round of the PTT Thailand Open, at the hands of the 103rd ranked German competitor, Tobias Kamke, on Wednesday afternoon.
Number eight seed in the tournament, Andujar suffered a humiliating defeat in straight set 0-6, 1-6, in less than an hour to finish his voyage at the Thailand Open in his opening matchup. Kamke took merely 56 minutes to wrap up
an emphatic victory over the Spaniard, getting through to the second round of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 250.
25-year-old Andujar won just one serve game in the entire matchup, suffering five break points from his belligerent opponent. The Spaniard failed to defend his title at BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy last Sunday, falling to the world
number 22, Florian Mayer of Germany. His utterly failed to pose any resistance to the hard hitting Kamke in the Wednesday’s contest and suffered an early exit from the tournament.
The contest was an all-German show, with the unseeded Kamke dominating every second of the matchup to force his way to victory in the most authoritative manner. He faced not a single break point from his eighth seed opponent and
converted five out of his seven serve breaks en route to victory.
Kamke took off the demolition job straight away in the opening set, launching a series of forays on Andujar. The German nailed three consecutive serve breaks to rocket at to 6-0 in just 20 minutes of play. After losing the opener,
the Spaniard finally held his serve in the opening game of the second set but two crushing break point conversions from Kamke left him answerless in the game.
Kamke will take on the Japanese qualifier, Go Soeda, in the second round to battle for a place in the quarter-finals of the PTT Thailand Open. Soeda had an enthralling contest with Slivakia’s Karol Beck in the opening round but
eventually defeated him 3-6, 7-6(0), 7-6(4), to book a date with Kamke in the second round.
