Tobias Kamke destroys Conor Niland to enter quarterfinals – Loughborough Challenger 2011
The second round of the 2011 AEGON Loughborough Challenger continued on November 10, 2011 with men’s singles competition contested between Conor Niland (Ireland) and Tobias Kamke (Germany). The 25-year old Tobias crushed Niland
6-3, 6-0, 6-0.
Niland, ranked 195th in the world, was completely out of form as Kamke annihilated him with humiliating defeat in the last two sets of the match.
As the first set progressed, Niland had some control in the match. He scored two aces with a single double fault. Kamke did not score any ace and since he was playing defensive tennis in the first set, he did not concede any double
faults either.
Niland had a slightly upper hand in the first set as he had a 77% first serve winning ratio as compared to Kamke’s 55%. The Irish was also serving well as he scored 85% points with his first serve and 83% points with his second
serve.
The Irish was successful in saving his breakpoint while Kamke, rranked at 108th in the world, could only save one out of his two breakpoints. The German was not serving well, an indication he gave from his service games.
He won 64% points from his first serve and 78% points from his second serve. Kamke was not able to reduce the lead, which the Irish had created in the first set. Niland won the first set 6-3.
As the second set progressed, Kamke was going for the win as he kept on winning his games and did not let Niland to win any game. The Irish was unable to score any ace or did concede any double fault. He Although he had a 67% first
serve winning ratio, higher than Kamke’s 50% ratio, it was the German who created a strong lead in the second set.
Kamke won 86% points from his first serve as compared to Niland’s 42% points. In the second serve, however, the German won 86% points while NIland was dreadful, as he could not win a single point with his second serves.
The German, who played the third round of the 2010 Wimbledon, did not let Niland break any of his serves. The Irish, who played the first round of the 2011 Wimbledon, however, could only save one out of his four breakpoints.
Niland was not able to start any counter attack against the German in the second set, as he could not win even a single game. Kamke won the second set 6-0.
With both players winning a set each, the third set went underway to determine the winner. The German was again on the front foot as he scored with six aces and did not concede any double fault. He was trying to end the match at
the earliest.
The Irish could not score any ace and did concede double faults twice, which kept him behind the German throughout the third set.
Kamke also won the third set 6-0 and won the match showing his dominance over the Irish player. He has now moved into the quarterfinals of the 2011 AEGON Loughborough Challenger.
