Tobias Kamke dumps Sebastian Rieschick in the second round – If Stockholm Open 2011
German qualifier, Tobias Kamke, had no real difficulty to dispose of his fellow compatriot, Sebastian Rieschick, in second round clash of the If Stockholm Open on Thursday.
Being played on the indoor hard courts of Stockholm, Sweden, the local crowd witnessed a one-sided affair, with Kamke dominating all the way. The 25-year-old German took merely 58 minutes of play to register his straight sets victory
at 6-3, 6-1, to make it to the quarter-finals of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 250 event.
Rieschick cleared the opening round in a comprehensive manner but proved to be a total mismatch for the belligerence of Kamke in the Thursday’s matchup. He failed to pose any serious resistance against the fury of his opponent
in both sets and finished off his Stockholm campaign in a humiliating manner.
Kamke’s phenomenal was his primary weapon of destruction in the competition, as he clinched 22 out of 27 first serve points en route to victory. He didn’t face a single break point from Rieschick, who utterly failed to craft one
in the entire matchup. Kamke converted four of his six break chances in the matchup and cruised through the sets to reach victory under an hour.
The German winner kept the rallies short and professional, racing through the games to drive Rieschick out of the tournament. Kamke converted his first break point of the day in the fourth game of the match to lead 4-1 and kept
his lead till the conclusion of the first set at 6-3.
Once getting into his winning momentum in the match, Kamke never looked back to his opponent in the rest of the match. He stung two successive serve breaks to fly away to a 4-0 lead in no time and kept exerting pressure on the
crumbling German to force him submit the game. Kamke nailed a decisive serve break in the seventh game of the second set to close out the competition at 6-1, booking a place in the round of eight. A total of 98 points were played in the matchup and Kamke secured
57 of them, with Rieschick lagging behind with 41 points.
Kamke will play his quarter-final clash against the unseeded Finn competitor, Jarkko Nieminen, on Friday for a place in the semis of the If Stockholm Open. Nieminen made a huge upset in the second round on Thursday, when he outplayed
the third seeded Swiss opponent, Stanislas Wawrinka, in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, to make it to the quarter-finals.
