Tobias Kamke eases past Lukas Lacko into the main draw – Davidoff Swiss Indoors 2011
German Tobias Kamke overwhelmed Slovak Lukas Lacko resilience in the opening set to earn a straight set victory at the final qualifying round of the Swiss Indoors 2011, an ATP World Tour 500 series event held at the St. Jakobshalle
in Basel, Switzerland. He registered a 7-6(6), 6-3 victory over the 23-year-old Slovak to secure a main draw spot on Sunday.
Ranked 96th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour rankings, Kamke outmuscled the Slovak, ranked twenty-seven levels below him, on their first encounter. After earning success at this one hour and fifty-one minutes
long marathon, the German booked a first round place at this indoor hard court event.
The German displayed exceptional defensive skills as he dusted away two out of three breakpoints came across. On the other hand, Kamke capitalised on one out of seven breakpoint opportunities to his advantage and took the set to
a tie-breaker. He prevailed in it to clinch the opener with a 7-6(6) victory.
The highly positive German coughed more unforced errors but covered it up by slobbering a higher first serve share of 69 percent. Furthermore, he registered a plausible 64 percent win on it.
Kamke kept momentum flowing into the final set and after breaking Lacko’s serve three times, he bagged it with a 6-3 win. The German saved only six out of eight breakpoints faced but capitalised on three out of five breakpoint
opportunities to his advantage. Mustering the set further, he formulated a much better first serve share of 73 percent as compared to the Slovak’s 32 percent and earned an impressive 60 percent win on it.
Next up for the 25-year-old German is his fellow qualifier, Lukasz Kubot of Poland.
Kubot bounced back to register a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory over a local wild card entrant, Stephane Bohli to reach the main draw.
The Swiss saved one out of two breakpoints faced and cashed in both breakpoint opportunities to his advantage to pocket the opener with a 6-4 win.
Qualifying third seeded Pole re-focused in the second set and brushed off the only breakpoint came across. He then converted one out of two breakpoint chances to his advantage to win the equaliser with a 6-4 score line.
Kubot high spiritedly entered the final set and smoothly picked up easy points to swirl in entire serves without facing any breakpoint. He then cashed in half of the four breakpoint chances to his advantage to clinch the decider
with a 6-3 win.
