Tobias Kamke in semi final after beating Andre Begemann – Loughborough Challenger 2011
The 2011 AEGON Loughborough Challenger continued on November 11, 2011 with the quarterfinals of the men’s singles competition featuring Tobias Kamke (Germany) play against compatriot Andre Begemann. Kamke won the match 6-4, 3-6,
6-3.
Begemann was dominant in the match as he delivered seven aces and conceded three double faults. Kamke could only score one ace in the entire match and had the same number of double faults.
In the first set, Kamke, ranked at 108th place in the world, could not deliver any ace and conceded two double faults. Kamke had a 69% first serve winning ratio while Begemann had a 58% rate.
When it came to winning with their service games, they were equally matched. Kamke won 71% points from his first serve while Begemann won 72% points. In their second serve, Kamke won 64% points with his second serve while Begemann
could only score 54% points from his second serve.
The 25-year old Kamke played his service games with precision as he saved all six of his breakpoints. Begemann could only save one out of his two breakpoints. Begemann could have won the set but Kamke kept the lead and won the
set 6-4.
As the second set progressed, Kamke was unable to deliver any aces, as he could not retain the lead in the second set. He did not concede any double fault either. Begemann scored three aces and showed his offensive play in an effort
to win the set. He conceded two double faults and was able to gain a lead over Kamke.
Begemann was able to save all three of his breakpoints, which further gave him the pace to retain the lead in the set. Kamke was looking good in the first set but he could not sustain the same momentum in the second set as he had
a three game deficit, which he could not narrow down. Begemann won the second set 6-3, equalizing the match.
As the third set entered the third set, Begemann was going for the win as he scored three aces and did not concede any double faults. Kamke could only score a single ace and conceded a double fault once in the set. Kamke had a
higher first serve winning ratio with 74% points while Begemann could only had a 73% first serve winning rate.
Begemann could not save any of the two breakpoints he faced which let him lose any chance to gain a lead while Kamke was also unsuccessful as he could only save five out of his six breakpoints.
Kamke won the third set 6-3 and made his place into the semi finals. Kamke had won his first and second round matches of the ongoing tournament in straight sets but he was unable to secure a win against Begemann.
