Tobias Kamke stands tall against Alex Bogdanovic in first round – Hall of Fame Championships 2011
Seeded at number eight in the tournament, Tobias Kamke of Germany had a brilliant start at the Campbell’s Hall of Fame Tennis Championships, defeating the Briton competitor, Alex Bogdanovic, in the opening round of the tournament
on Tuesday.
Being played at the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, Rhode Island, United States, Kamke proved his dominance on the grass court once again, outplaying Bogdanovic in straight sets, 7-6(3), 6-3, to book a place in the
second round of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 250 tournament.
World number 96, Kamke, appeared in a belligerent form in the matchup and displayed his crafty tennis skills to come out as the winner in the end. The German encountered some real tough time in the opening set, eventually clinching
it in the tie breaker round but faced limited resistance from his opponent in the second set to conclude his straight sets victory.
The opener took off with some high quality tennis action from the two men, exchanging serve breaks early to get the better of one another. Both contestants registered two break point conversions each to gridlock the scores at 6-6,
taking the set into the tie breaker round. Kamke proved devastating in the decider and allowed merely three points to his opponent before sealing the first set at 7-6(3).
German domination became more intense in the following set, with Kamke registering two consecutive serve breaks to inch closer to victory. He delivered the final blow in the ninth game, when a sizzling forehand winner just went
pass the stretching racquet of Bogdanovic, marking an end to the matchup at 6-3.
Despite of a below par serve of 51 per cent and six double faults in the game, Kamke managed to collect sufficient points to outplay his opponent in the matchup. He reeled off 29 out of 44 first serve points in the contest but
converted all the four break opportunities he crafted in the match to gain the competitive advantage against the British opponent.
Bogdanovic had his chances in the matchup but his bleak game didn’t allow him to take advantage of them. The Briton had 14 chances to break the German serve but he frittered away most of them, cashing in just three to finish on
the losing side. A total of 151 points were played in the contest, with Bogdanovic clinching 69 and Kamke bagging 82 to move in to the second round of the tournament to face Donald Young of the United States for a place in the quarter-finals.
