Tobias Kamke sweeps away Juan Ignacio Chela to sit in the 3rd round – International German Open 2011
Tuesday saw the start of the 2nd round matches of the 2011 International German Open. Out of the few matches of the second round one of them was between Tobias Kamke of Germany and Juan Ignacio Chela of Argentina. Both
players had their first encounter ever. The match was played at the Rothenbaum Tennis Court in Hamburg, Germany. As the clay court was levelled up, Juan and Kamke entered the court welcomed by a huge cheer by the fans.
Tobias Kamke, nicknamed “Tobi” has been playing professional tennis since 2009 under Coach Ralph Grambow. The 25-year-old has yet to win any major titles but has been performing consistently. Out of the last 10 matches, Kamke has
won 6. Ranked at world No.90, the German plays a two handed backhand and is quite strong in volleying the ball and at serve. The right hander has been unsuccessful at the Mercedes Cup but yet tried his luck in the Hamburg Open.
Playing against the German was the Argentine Juan Ignacio Chela. The Buenos Aires born has been in good form since his win in the Dusseldorf Open final. The clay specialist made his way to the 2nd round with a cheap
buy. Ranked at world No.21, Juan had a nerve wreck as he got blown out of the 2nd round of the International German Open- Hamburg.
The match started off with Kamke serving first and opening the scorecard 1-0. The Argentine then followed losing another game 0-2 as he gave away the first breakpoint of the game. The German made his lead to 3-0 in the next game
as he outgunned the clay experts’ every shot. Chela was becoming a disaster as he lost the next two games as well to ease his opponent to a 5-0 lead. The World No.21 finally broke through. However, it was too late. The German took away game 7 and the set 6-1
to lead 1-0 in the match.
Following the devastation the German had put Chela through, the Argentine tried to come back up in the second set as the scores tied at 4-4 after game 15 but the world No.21 could not prove himself worthy of his current rank and
dropped another breakpoint. The 25 year old German, Kamke, played the final move and took the game, set and the match 6-1, 6-4 sending Juan Ignacio Chela back to where he came from.
Statically, Tobias went lucky to beat the world No.21. He totalled 72 points in the match, including 37 service points and 35 returners. The German world No.90 won just because he had a better return point ratio as to Chela. Other
than that pretty much of the stats were the same.
The German pleased his home fans as he secured his seat in the 3rd Round of the International German Tennis Championship to play against the winner of the match between Bastian Knittel and Marin Cilic.
