Tobias Oriwol acquires Men's 1500m freestyle gold: Day three – 2011 Canada Cup, Toronto
Tobias Oriwol of TSC acquired gold medal of Men's 1500m freestyle on final day of the 2011 Canada Cup in Toronto, on Sunday, November 27.
The 26-year-old Oriwol proved his mettle for gold spot by submitting a phenomenal time of 16 minutes and 06.70 seconds. His title claiming efforts remained nearly 37 seconds above the Canadian mark of 15 minutes and 29.94 seconds, owned by Francesco Zuccaro of ESWIM in 2007.
The gold medallist remained almost 3 seconds ahead of his subsequent competitor Chris Reith of DAL TIGERS. The 21-year-old Reith reported a wonderful time of 16 minutes and 09.36 seconds for silver medal. With his exhausting efforts, he easily overwhelmed his competitor, Alexa Hamilton of NYAC.
The 16-year-old Hamilton remained 3.11 seconds slower than his former finisher and concluded his swim in a time of 16 minutes and 12.47 seconds. The bronze medallist was trailed by Brian Yakiwchuk of UOFA, who acquired fourth fastest spot of the swim.
The 22-year-old Yakiwchuk remained 3.02 seconds slower than his preceding swimmer and posted a time of 16 minutes and 15.49 seconds for fourth position. He was chased by Dan Cocking of GBR, who appeared on the finishing end as the fifth fastest swimmer.
The 21-year-old Cocking stayed 4.26 seconds away from fourth position holder and hit the finishing wall with the fifth best timing of 16 minutes and 19.75 seconds. The sixth finest spot of the race was secured by Teddy Kalp of NYAC, who remained just 0.25 seconds slower than Cocking on the concluding wall and posted a time of 16 minutes and 20.00 seconds.
The 15-year-old Kalp was chased by Kyle Watson of DAL TIGERS, who was 3.68 seconds slower than him and concluded his swim in a time of 16 minutes and 23.68 seconds.
The 18-year-old Watson remained prominently ahead of his following swimmer and his team-member, Matt Piggott, who was almost 10 seconds slower than him and ended his swim in a time of 16 minutes and 33.26 seconds for eighth position.
The arena appreciated furious efforts of all participants while the podium finisher received their accolades after the completion of the session.
