Tobias Oriwol pockets Men’s 200m backstroke gold - Canadian Olympic & Paralympic Trials
Tobias Oriwol of TSC pocketed gold medal of the Men’s 200m backstroke on day five of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Trials in Montreal on Saturday, March 31.
Oriwol remained engage in a neck-to-neck race with Charles Francis of PPO throughout the four-lap backstroke discipline, but with his utter determination, Oriwol succeeded in ending his swim in first place.
With his remarkable performance in the 200m discipline, he seized the podium for gold medal by posting a time of 1 minute and 58.79 seconds.
He was followed by Francis, who stayed just 0.11 seconds slower from his former finisher and reached the medal rostrum for second position by concluding his swim in a time of 1 minute and 58.90 seconds.
The silver medallist was trailed by Matt Hawes, who lived up to the expectations of his supporters by producing an effort of 2 minutes and 00.29 seconds for bronze medal. Hawes was followed by Matthew Swanston of NEW, who remained 0.52 seconds behind and settled on the finishing wall as fourth position holder by completing his swim in a time of 2 minutes and 00.81 seconds.
Similarly, Swanston remained almost two seconds ahead of Matthew Myers of LSC, who secured fifth position of the discipline by completing his swim in a time of 2 minutes and 02.79 seconds.
Myers was trailed by Chad Bobrosky of CASC, who was 0.58 seconds slower from his former finisher and transpired on the finishing end for sixth position by hitting the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 03.37 seconds.
Bobrosky was trailed by Graham Hawes of Scar, who stayed 0.26 seconds slower from his preceding finisher and ended his swim in seventh place by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 03.63 seconds.
Finally, Adam Best emerged on the finishing wall as he stayed almost half second behind and clocked an effort of 2 minutes and 04.27 seconds to occupy eighth position of the discipline.
Oriwol was very excited with his gold accomplishing effort and said that he will try to excel in his main event at the upcoming 2012 London Olympic Games.
