The Belgian stopper has ruled out a move away from the Eredivisie champions despite several European clubs including some English Premier League outfits interested in signing the defender this summer.
Ajax Amsterdam centre-back, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Toby-Alderweireld-c35183, has made it clear that he does not intend to move away from Amsterdam Arena at this point of his career, despite several European clubs interested in acquiring his services this summer.
The Belgian international, who started his professional career at the Eredivisie giants in the 2008/09 season, has been putting in consistent performances at the heart of De Joden’s defence.
Along with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jan-Vertonghen-c17814, the 23-year-old has formed a solid and successful partnership, and has helped the Amsterdam giants to back-to-back Eredivisie titles in the past two seasons.
His consistent showings at the Amsterdammers’ back-line have garnered him interest from a host of European clubs including Newcastle United, who were tipped to be his most likely destination before the 2012/13 season kicks-off.
However, the Belgian stopper has now made it clear that he does not want to leave the Eredivisie champions this summer.
“I will stay at Ajax, no matter what. Don't listen to all the rumours you hear”, Alderweireld was quoted as saying to Voetbal International.
The highly-talented central defender has thus far donned the jersey of Ajax in 79 Eredivisie matches, and has netted five goals along the way while providing rock solid performances in defence.
The Germinal Beerschoot youth product, who has an ongoing contract at De Joden that runs until the summer of 2014, has expressed his desire to ply his trade at Amsterdam Arena for at least another season.
“I want to see Ajax at the top of the league table from the first week right until the 34th week”, Alderweireld concluded.
Although, Ajax managed to lift sucessive Eredivisie titles in the past couple of seasons, they failed to assert their authority right from the start. In both of the last two seasons, the Amsterdammers were crowned champions due
to their phenomenal performances in the second-half of the campaign.
However, the Amsterdam giants would be looking to defend their title in the 2012/13 campaign with extreme dominance.
