Toby Ng and Grace Gao clinch Mixed Doubles title at XVII Peru International 2012 – Badminton news
Canada’s Toby Ng and Grace Gao delivered a phenomenal performance and clinched Mixed Doubles title at the XVII Peru International 2012 on Sunday, April 15, in Peru.
In the final match, Toby and Grace hammered their lower ranked team-mates Derrick Ng and Alex Bruce with an impressive margin.
Toby and Grace, who were the top seed in Mixed Doubles main draw of Peru International, put up a spectacular show of flawless badminton and defeated the third seeded Derrick and Bruce without losing any set.
On the other hand, the lower ranked Derrick and Bruce failed to live up to expectations as they could not compete well in the title match and lost it without impressing the local fans.
The top seeds remained impressive throughout the tournament and continued their winning run in the final contest as well. They ended the final encounter in two games by taking just 30 minutes.
Right from the start, Toby and Grace remained on the driving seat as they did not let their rivals to dictate the pace. They managed an early lead while remaining positive and aggressive in the court.
Toby and Grace were in full control and managed to set up a comfortable gap until the mid-game interval.
After the break, the top seeds continued their composed play without facing any considerable interruption from their opponents and bagged it easily with a one-sided 21-10 score on the board.
In the second game, Derrick and Bruce played slightly better badminton as they matched the speed of their higher ranked compatriots in the early points.
However, Toby and Grace changed their tactics and again controlled the pace of rallies while remaining fully focused in the game.
They were ahead on the board with a reasonable margin until the one-minute break.
After the interval, Toby and Grace maintained their upper hand in the contest as they did not drop down their speed at any moment and took the second set with an impressive margin of 21-15.
Toby and Grace bagged Mixed Doubles title by winning the final battle in 30 minutes by a comprehensive margin of 21-10 and 21-15.
