Today, I've decided to be a vegetarian. How long will it take my body to completely detox of meat?

I will never eat anything that contains animal again. That includes dairy, gelatin, and so on and so on... However, I will eat beans to get protein, so how long will it take me to detox? Will the process be unpleasant? How much longer will I live being a vegetarian vs. someone who mostly eats meat?

  2. Your body is not "toxified" in the first place just from eating meat.  That's silly.  On the other question, most studies show no difference (not significant) between life expectancy of vegetarians vs. non-vegetarians.

  4. Way to go man! If you make sure that you get all the nutrients you need you'll feel so much better!

    There was a woman here in Sweden on the news a couple of years ago, she was 110 something (think it was 114 years) and had been a vegetarian since she was a child. She was still going, guess that says something.

  5. I think 7 years to completely get meat out of your body. It takes your body 7 years to replace all of its cells, and some of your cells were made with the help of meat (yuck!). So in 7 years you will be 100% meat free!

  6. The whole business about toxins in the body is pure mythology. For the real stuff, go to www.quackwatch.org and search for detoxification.

    In the 18th century, people would take heavy doses of purgatives every month or so to "detoxify" themselves. We know better now - or at least some of us, including the scientific and medical communities, do.

  8. It takes your body 24-72 hours to eradicate your body of the meat. It doesn't take too, too long...

    Especially if you drink your 6-8 glasses of water a day, you will help to speed up the process by eliminating toxins from your body that have been created by ingesting meat.

  9. If you have a high metabolism and do lots of exercise, and lots of sweating etc. it will take less time just because things are simply moving faster, so-to-speak.

    Yes, your last meal of meat could take up to a week or more to go through the body.  This is because humans are not designed to consume meat.  Normally it should take a proper meal about 7 hours depending on the meal.  I know some meat eaters that go poo once a week, and they think that's normal.

    Also, remember, you are what you eat.  All of the cells in your body are made from what you've been eating.  How long until all of those cells are replaced?  You could look at it that way too.

    There will be a 'sludge' in your digestive tract that will take time to come out  -- in all of those nooks and crannies and folds.  That's where fibre in the diet comes in handy.  Helps to scrape all that out.  It will all come out in time anyway, but doing some organic juice fasts won't hurt evern now and again.

    Personally didn't experience any detox negative effects... all positive.

    Living longer is not just about diet.  I've met fat unfit unhealthy vegans too.  There's also stress, satisfaction in life, pollution, not to mention those pesky cars that run people over.
