what cant you do with it ? In today,s world and not least this Country it is getting more expensive every time you go shopping, and very soon we will all be on the bread line as my Mother used to say.I bought a two pound bag of potatoes on Friday and they cost me £ 1.79, is it getting expensive to grow them now,I mean has the soil changed to something different, if it has I wish someone would tell me how ? I think Gordon Brown or anyone else in Downing street does not go shopping and in any case it would not matter if they did, because with their high money they get, we could afford them as well. I often wonder if they care a d**n about what Pensions they give us to live on as I am finding like many more hard to manage with this paltry sum.Any one else finding it hard with their Pension. ? I worked for nearly sixty years, but I often wished I had stayed at home as it gives me no benefits for doing working all those years.

  1. Isn't it true, after a certain time in most civilizations, the governments slowly squeeze the tax dollars out of the citizens, until the nation goes bankrupt and implodes. I see that in our future. Bollocks.

  2. Since we saved for retirement and did not depend on the government supporting us we are doing great. Time and money to do all the things we could not afford when younger

  3. You are right; everything costs a lot more. I sympathize with you. It may be too late for you to change your financial predicament. You should have foreseen such a predicament and saved for it during those sixty working years. Now you are at the mercy of the government. My intention here is not to be mean; I am being honest. I am hoping other young working people learn from your situation. If you are renting, consider moving to places with cheaper living expenses. If you own a home free and clear, consider a reverse mortgage that will allow you to withdraw a small amount just to supplement your pension. Good luck! I am sorry I couldn't help more.

P.S. Don't hesitate to check food banks...etc. You've probably heard the common sayings: Think twice before you spend once! A penny saved is a penny earned.

  4. Is this what is called Rambling?

  5. I'm doing OK.  I managed on my housekeeping money last week with a few coins left over.  I went to Tesco late afternoon Friday, and bought 2 kilo of potatoes reduced from €2.49 to €1.00 and 500g carrots down from 79c to 20c. A piece of bacon was half price, now €3.40.  That'll take care of dinner for a couple of days.  I have noticed that vegetables are cheaper than meat, so we are going to eat smaller portions of meat with a wider variety of veg.  Next year I'll plant some of my own.

You are right, though.  Things are generally more expensive. When everybody else gets a wage increase, it is only fair that the growers would too.  I look on it as a challenge, being inventive with meals.  My starting point is what we have already, or what is on offer.  If I had to pay full price for everything, we would have a lot less to go round.
