Question:

Today's school pupils really do work harder (Comments)

I read this in the Daily Mail, and it was the comments from people at the end that really annoyed me, they are all so critical of school pupils and I am sure a lot of them haven’t had first hand experience of the education system for a long time.

What are your thoughts on the article and comments at the end?

(I know I shouldn't bother reading The Daily Mail as whenever I look at it I just end up disagreeing with everything they say :-)

Thanksxxxxxx

  1. I've been going to school for most of my life and I will start again taking other courses this winter. I can tell you with out a doubt that pupils have it much easier now than ever. As a matter of fact I would encourage anyone who is 45 years old or over that if you wanted to continue your education in whatever field now is the time to go. The students now have the same learning ethic as work ethic which is zero. It is crip now for those wanting to go and learn and achieve certificates.

  2. your right.

  3. To be honest even from when I was going to school they seem to have it easier now.....

But then again, they seem to have more days off than days at school, so maybe it is harder as they don't have the constant tuition.

  4. I've just done my GCSEs and, if I'm being completely honest, I didn't put in a mighty amount of effort but I still know I've done well enough to get into college.

Education 'back in the day' seems like it was a lot harder than nowadays.

But in the modern day we need better jobs and more money so it seems fair that more people ought to be offered further education so they don't end up unemployed and scrounging off the government like more people are getting like today. So maybe it is better that initial education is easier. (But I'm not saying higher education like degress should be dumbed down whatsoever).

  5. From what i had gathered it was easier to pass now look at all the stuff in the news about spelling errors being allowed as they knew what the student ment and a lot of history being changed as not to offend a certain religion.

My colleague has often commented on the lack of homework his 12 year old son brings home now. Plus they have numerous half terms and holidays now kids seem to have it a lot easier now IMO.

  6. Sadly exams these days compared to twenty years ago are simple. Todays students can justturn up and pass almost. Most cannot write spell or read and still get Grade As. Its amazing.

  7. Don't know about GCSEs but I went back to college to do an HND when I was 40 and was amazed at how easy it was.

Not to mention the fact that if you failed a module you were told WHAT you failed on and you were given time to go back and revise for that particular question before re-sitting it.

That seemed pretty pointless to me, if that had been the case when I was at school I'd have several degrees by now.
