He said that this process will be long, and he wanted to meet with me and my mother today at 5. What things will we go over? and how will this process affect me. I havent been to basic yet or anything, and i realized i want to go back to college, and maybe enlist after i get out of college.

any advice about this 'cancellation' process would help

  1. If you have not sworn in yet (DEP or no DEP) you are free to go. You haven't been paid or sworn in, so go. You really don't even have to call and tell your recruiter, but it would be very courteous of you to do so and simply ask him not to call you anymore.

I enlisted in Feb 2006 and didn't ship until Mar 2006, a month later. My time showsI was in since Feb 2006, but I didn't swear in or start getting paid until I shipped in March. I could've not gone to MEPS to ship out and simply called my recruiter and said I wasn't going because I wasn't yet sworn in. Get it?

You can walk awaywithout consequence. You won't go to jail or be sued. The military has way too much on their minds than go into a civil suit with a teenager over a recruiting contract. BUT, if you cahnge your mind down the road, don't count on that recruiter helping you.

  2. I never even heard of a cancellation process ...i think he just wants to come over to try and convince you to join .  If you haven't gotten sworn in yet and decide that you don't want to go in the military the recruiter can kiss your behind because he can't make you.

  3. Sounds like you are in the DEP program and are wanting to back out. You are within your rights to back out of the DEP program and there are no consequences. There is nothing the recruiter can do about you leaving the DEP program. He will try and talk you out of it and may be angry but you are within your rights.

  4. I'm not sure about the cancelation process.

    But don't enlist after college!

If you get your bachelors, mine as well get a commision or warrant.

    Do ROTC or OCS.

  5. Your Recruiter is going to try to re-sell you on enlisting before he discharges you.  He will probably want to try to talk you into the reserves if you originally enlisted on active duty.  You don't have to meet with him if you don't want to.  Just make sure that he knows that you aren't going to go to boot camp because you want to go to college and they will discharge you.  It won't affect your future in the military if you decide to become a officer after you are done with college.

  6. Have you raised your hand and been sworn in yet ? I not your not in do not go, go to collage . An if you signed a contract tell them to sue you .
