Today i woke up with a very red eye i think it might be pink eye. How do i know?

my eye is irritated and itches and its very red.

Pink eye (conjunctivitis) can be itchy and painful, can make you sensitive to light, and can give you "crusties" or "goobers" in your eye.  Really you need to see a doctor for a proper diagnosis and proper treatment.  Eye infections are highly contagious, so be careful.  Good luck.

if it is red and irritated it obviously needs some medical attention. Make a doc appt. Pinnk eye is super contageous.

There are three types of pink eye viral, bacteria, and allergic.

Viral is caused by the same bug as the common cold and very contagious there is no treatment for this it will have to run its' course and will clear up in 3 -7 days. Bacterial can be treated with treated with antibiotic eye drops. Allergic can be treated with Patanol eye drops (cold compresses and oral antihistamines will help until you get to an Optometrist) Only an eye doctor can diagnose what type of conjunctivitis  you have with a slit lamp. Regular doctor make and educated guess based on your symptoms. Most will treated with antibiotics if that doesn't work they will treat you with Patanol for allergies since viral last 3-7 days it will probably clear up on its own it the meanwhile.

IN THE CASE YOU WON'T GO TO THE DOC OR YOU DON'T HAVE INSURANCE, KEEP YOUR HANDS AND FACE VERY CLEAN, USE SANITIZER OR RUBBING ALCOHOL ON YOUR HANDS. MAKE A CUP OF TEA  (NO SUGAR) AND LET STAND FOR APPX.10 MINUTES. ONCE THE TEA IS COOL TAKE A CLEAN COTTON BALL AND DIP IT INTO THE TEA THEN SQUEEZE THE TEA INTO YOUR EYE, (DO NOT TOUCH YOUR EYE WITH IT!!!) SAVE THE TEA AND REUSE IT THROUGHOUT THE DAY, 4-5TIMES PER DAY. DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS. JUST A LITTLE FOOD FOR THOUGHT, PINK EYE COMES FROM GETTING FECAL MATTER(p**p) IN YOUR EYE, SO BE SURE TO KEEP YOUR HANDS SUPER CLEAN.
