Today on the school run the traffic lights changed from red to green?

so i drove over the white line asthe lights were green directly in front of me is a yellow box painted on the road so i did not enter it as the exit was not clear in doing this i blocked 3 lanes of traffic i then get motorists blasting there horns at me but i could not do anything else so now my confidence is dented and i still unsure about what to do about yellow box junctions sensible answers please thanks

At a box junction (a yellow box painted on the road & filled with yellow criss - cross lines), you MUST NOT enter the box unless your exit is clear. This means that if you were going straight on, you would wait at your edge of the box until traffic on the other side had moved off.

If you are turning right, you MAY wait in the box, providing that your exit is clear & you are only prevented from turning right by oncoming traffic.

From what you've said, you were right, but I can't understand how in doing this, you managed to block three lanes of traffic.

I'm not quite sure how you were blocking three lanes of traffic if you were not in the box.

If you think you may have made a mistake, find a friend who has been driving for a while and take them to the lights/junction and ask them a) what you should've done and b) what they would've done...

Never cross the yellow box (which is called the junction box) unless there is space for one car to get passed or you will be fined.

Hi, OK I'm a little unsure about the situtation you were in but it sounds like you were turning right at a box junction?

Which lanes exactly were you blocking by crossing the white line but NOT entering the yellow box? The ones from right to left? And who was tooting and was it when YOUR light was still on green or had changed to red that they were tooting?

Couldn't really say who was right/wrong without knowing that info :)
