  1. very true

  2. It's difficult to say. An achievment is an achievment, but there IS a context. The women in history may not have achieved a LOT by our standards, but by the standards of the time, the achievement was enormous. Susan B. Anthony will be remembered. I'll get a medical degree, be part of a war effort, raise  smart, self sufficient and multilingual, cultured kids and rock out on an electric guitar, which is technically a lot more stuff to accomplish on my own, but it's EASY today. A woman can do whatever she pleases.

So technically we achieve MORE... but there isn't a victory achieved.

One could help the cause by battling misogyny in Africa or the Middle East. They still need women to help them.

  3. In general I'd say true.   However you need to define this question more.  Are you comparing modern women today to women in the past?  Or are you comparing modern women to modern men?Kindly see the below.

Achieve more how and in what ways?  What is your guideposts/milestones?  Do you mean socially, professionally, emotionally, in their private lives?

American women today are freer, more independent and also more wild.  Since men often follow women that can mean that women are leading American and Western society into decay.

So in a way, while achieving more, they are also achieving less...(too much of a good thing is no good.)

  4. True

  5. I think people in general achieve more. Because of TV and the internet we have access to information which otherwise we wouldn't know about. Certain jobs, courses, hobbies etc that we may have never heard off before.

  6. I don't think this is true. They may achieve DIFFERENT things now though. It is true that they achieve more in the workplace, government, etc. But even if you are a housewife you can achieve things. Helping your kids get good grades, doing volunteer work, cooking things. These are all achievments too just different ones. But I think everyone should achieve things that they feel is right for them. For some women it will be in their career, for others it will be family things.

  7. False.  Women have always contributed to society, and people who say that women do more meaningful things nowadays are, i belive, mistaken.

People often talk about women 'just being housewives' in the past, which while true of the majority of women, ignores the fact that being a housewife was, in the pre-industrial era, a job that involved a multitude of specialist skills.  Very few modern women could do half or even a quarter of the jobs that were required of a housewife in, say, colonial America.

Women who talk smugly about their lives being more 'meaningful' nowadays would be totally at a loss if they found themselves obliged to try and survive in the past.  In the days when self-sufficiency was not a fad but a stern necessity for most people, the skills of women were vital for the surivival of the species.

They are also apparently unaware of the fact that, in the days when most people worked in or near their own homes (as most people did up until about the mid-eighteenth century), women would very often be involved in business as well, since businesses tended to be family affairs.  And a lot of widows ran businesses after their husbands died.

Moreover, look at the enormous amount of things achieved by women in the last couple of hundred years.  Consider women like Florence Nightingale, Elizabeth Fry, Dorothea Dix, Elizabeth Blackwell, Clara Barton, Harriet Beecher Stow, Harriet Tubman, Jane Addams etc.  How many modern women are there to compare with them?  Precious few I think.

I don't think today's women are achieving any more than they were in the past.  I don't want to go back to the days when people had to be self-sufficient, I do not want the exhausting life that women had to live in those days, but their function in society was absolutely vital, and personally I think their achievements were amazing.

  8. We certainly achieve a wider variety of things, and more prestigious things. But "more" is relative among women.
