Todd Carney’s future with Sydney Rooster jeopardised
Todd Carney is left with only five days to justify his stay with the National Rugby League (NRL) club, Sydney Rooster, as his recursive alcohol related issues are a constant source of embarrassment for the entire squad.
Carney has a troubled history with alcohol and this year has been no different. In the beginning of this year, Carney was charged for drunk driving and only three months apart he was again spotted on a night out with his team mate, Anthony Watts, against
the club’s policy to refrain from drinking.
In line with his previous records Carney yet again along with two other club mates, Nate Myles and Frank-Paul Nu'uausala has let the team down by breaching team’s alcohol ban for consuming alcohol until 2 a.m. on Monday morning.
This incident in Roosters was met with fury, as this was a breach of team’s commitment against the self imposed drinking ban. Not only fans are disappointed but the team’s skipper, Braith Anasta who has worked really hard in pulling together the squad after
it derailed off track completely in 2009.
Previously he was ousted from an NRL club, on account of misbehaviour and the year 2011, is not turning out to be very fruitful for him as he is marching towards a similar scenario with his latest club too for the repetitive display of misconduct.
However, this latest episode of the alcohol breach has led to the suspension from a match that might convert into complete termination from his outfit. Now the decision about his future will be made by Rooster’s chairman, Nick Politis.
In lieu of the disciplinary committee’s convention, on Wednesday, August 10 breach notices were handed in to all the alleged players as they will sit outside the Sunday’s clash against St. George Illawarra.
There is a huge possibility that the Roosters will oust him completely as he is constantly failing to stay in-line with the club’s codes. The club members are all up for ousting him, like what his previous club, Canberra had done.
While referring to the alcohol breach on Monday, the chief executive, Steve Noyce added, “The fact that people choose to betray the trust. This is a team sport. I’ve made it very clear that there are very serious breach notices that will be issued to all
these three players.”
The word is out about the chief executive of NRL, David Gallop, that he is refusing to deregister the player the second time. According to the chief, this decision will not be initiated by him unless the club indicates along those lines.
The top management, the fans and most importantly Rooster’s skipper are fed up of the trail of incidents by Carney which is unacceptable for the entire outfit. Despite the constant reminders this is no end to this sequence of events. It is now believed that
this matter needs to get sorted out with more seriousness and that has made Dally M Medal winning player’s future murky.
