Todd Hamilton joins Puerto Rico Open field as second alternative - Golf News
Todd Hamilton has been added to the Puerto Rico Open field after the withdrawal confirmation came from three players from the event on Tuesday, March 6, 2012.
Hamilton’s name was listed as a second alternative when the list of the participants was announced on Friday last week.
According to the tournament officials, Shane Bertsch, Ryuji Imada, Hank Kuehne, Colt Knost and Tommy Gainey have all announced their withdrawal from the event giving the other players a chance to participate in the event.
Hamilton, whose only participation came in the Mayakoba Golf Classic in 2012 season, looked happy with his name listed in the final participants of the event at the Trump International Golf Club - Puerto Rico · Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
He said that he is lucky to be a part of the prestigious event and hopeful to cheer his fans with a better performance, as he failed to make the cut earlier in Mayakoba.
After turning professional in 1987, he played on Japan Golf Tour for many years and registered 11 wins in total.
However, it took 16 years for him to earn his first PGA Tour card and participated in the 2004 season.
His first win of the PGA Tour came in Honda Classic in the same year followed by his maiden major win of the career, The Open Championship, on July 18, 2004.
With such a remarkable start to his PGA Tour campaign, he was named as the PGA Tour Rookie of the Year in 2004.
However, he failed to maintain his consistency and his major win proved to be his last win of the PGA Tour.
Therefore, he is not among the favourites to win, in fact, not even among the ones to fall in the top-10 at the end of the event.
Meanwhile, Gainey, who withdrew from the event because of the wrist injury that he suffered during last week’s Honda Classic, has said that he will be participating in the Transitions Championship, as he is hopeful to recover during this week.
"I got good news rest the wrist this week. I will be ready to play next week at The Transitions!!" he tweeted after a comprehensive examination with the doctors.
Transitions Championship will start from March 15, 2012, at the Innisbrook Golf & Spa Resort.
