Todd Helton and Troy Tulowitzki shine as Colorado Rockies defeat Los Angeles Dodgers 7-5 – Part 2
Continued from the previous article, this is the recap of how the Colorado Rockies powered their way to a 7-5 win for an impressive two game sweep against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Rockies dominated the Dodgers’ Chad Billingsley. He gave up five runs off six hits in the three innings that he pitched. It was not a good performance by Billingsley, as the Rockies went after him at the beginning of the game to shake up the Dodgers’
line-up.
On the other hand, Jason Hammel put in a decent pitching performance as he gave up just two home-runs in five innings. A good combination of Hammel’s pitching and Carlos Gonzalez’s defensive skills managed to keep the Rockies on top for most of the game.
Gonzalez once again proved his defensive skills as he was all over the field making brilliant stops and outstanding catches.
The Rockies were looking to put in a good performance against the Los Angeles Dodgers and they managed to do just that.
Franklin Morales pitched two innings that went without any score as he was brought on for relief. Matt Lindstrom was brought on in the eighth inning and he allowed one run.
Troy Tulowitzki believes that road games had to be blamed for their disappointing performance, "That was two things we concentrated on that gave us trouble last year, the Dodgers and road games, we took care of the Dodgers. Now, if we can get some road games
out of the way, we're out on the right foot."
The Rockies managed to put in a good performance and defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers taking the two game series sweep. Colorado had a good all round game, as both their offence and defence managed to dominate the Dodgers.
Los Angeles will be disappointed as their pitching line-up struggled throughout the game and were unable to contain the Rockies’ offence. The Dodgers’ offence did battle it out and kept the team close, but once again it was their pitching that seems to have
let them down early in the game.
The Rockies have basically sent a message with this win to the rest of the teams that they will be looking to dominate and come out strong during the early parts of the regular season. It will be interesting to see how the Rockies manage to carry their winning
momentum into their next match-up. The Dodgers will be looking to improve their performance and put in a better effort, especially with their pitching line-up if they want to compete with some of the more aggressive teams in the League.
