Todd Helton leads Colorado Rockies past Milwaukee Brewers 9-8 – MLB Update
National League West franchise Colorado Rockies crushed their league rivals Milwaukee Brewers in a close 9-8 encounter on Thursday, March 10 in Cactus League at Maryvale Baseball Park Phoenix Arizona.
Rockies’ first baseman Todd Helton and centre-fielder Willy Taveras put in a tremendous effort for the victory, as Milwaukee’s Ryan Braun resisted hard, hitting a three-run home-run.
Milwaukee’s batters struggled hard to shorten the 1-0 margin as Braun hammered a huge home-run to Rockies’ starting pitcher Esmil Rogers in the third inning. The homer provided Brewers three runs that turned the Rockies 1-0 early surplus to 3-1 deficit.
Taveras continued his .348 average this spring making three bases on three hits in five at-bats to pave Rockies eighth success in spring moving the table to 8-4. Helton contributed important two RBIs on two hits in fifth inning that moved the Rockies to
a 3-3 tie.
"I'm starting to find my timing and rhythm. It seems like a long time, but we're getting closer to the season," Braun said. "Another week and I should be ready."
Until the eighth inning, the game was un-predicable as Brewers posted four straight runs to tie the game at 6-6, but were not fortunate enough to gain another to achieve a lead. Rockies managed to make three runs in the ninth inning that moved them to un-beaten
lead until the end of the game as Brewers made only two runs ending the game in a 9-8 defeat.
Though Colorado had moved the game to their side, Rogers was not as impressive as he should be. He gave three runs including a home-run on six hits in four innings. However, he succeeded in striking-out four batters. Casey Weathers accompanied Rogers allowing
two runs on three hits in single inning he pitched. However, Matt Belisile, Greg Reynolds and Sean White consumed one run each in one inning each.
Milwaukee’s pitchers did not allow easy runs to the Rockies’ batters as they restricted them from making any home-run. Chris Narveson allowed only one run in three innings on four hits striking-out two. He was accompanied by Justin James who did not allow
even a single run in two innings while striking-out one. Davey Johnson proved most expensive for the Brewers, who received three hits that cost three runs without any strike-out.
Rockies’ Zack Greinke is sidelined with a hairline fracture of the seventh rib and bruise of the eighth rib on his left side. The injury was suffered playing basketball early in camp. The team officials have decided to examine him on daily basis to check
his fitness.
Rockies will play their next game against Kansas City Royals.
