Todd Helton’s homers help Colorado Rockies overpower Chicago Cubs 4-3 – MLB Update
Colorado Rockies’ first baseman Todd Helton was outstanding with his bat as he hit two home-runs in the Rockies 4-3 victory over the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field in Chicago on April 26.
The Rockies’ Manager Jim Tracy was contended with the performance of his team. He said, “We got a very good start tonight. He got better as the game went along. As his tempo into the game got better, so did he. To go out there and get that extra inning,
he went out in the seventh and put it down very nicely. He pitched us right to the two guys at the back end.”
Helton made two runs on two hits including two RBIs single to take revenge of the last night game. He led off the Rockies in the first inning with his homer towards the right-field position. The other Rockies players also contributed equally as Troy Tulowitzki
went 2-for-4 with an RBI double in the third inning.
Ty Wigginton hit a solo home run and took a double on three hits. He had a first season with the Rockies and wondered to see the efforts of Helton. Wigginton said of Helton, “He's clearly still one of the best hitters in the game. It's a treat to watch him
every night.”
The Rockies starter Jorge De La Rosa pitched dominantly over the Cubs as he struck out nine batters and gave away just two runs on six hits in seven inning pitches. Rafael Betancourt threw the scoreless eighth inning and had one strike-out with giving just
one hit. The Rockies closer Huston Street was little bit scratchy at the end as he permitted a home-run to Alfonso Soriano but pitched the rest of the inning perfectly for his ninth save.
For the Cubs, Geovany Soto was not able to score a run with four at-bats and the Cubs stuck with 2-1 in the first inning. Jeff Baker had two-out single but it was too late.
The Cubs’ Manager Mike Quade was disappointed with his line-up. He said, “The one thing I've seen is that when he's been missing. Wasn't a real conducive night to having pitches up in the strike zone. I'm actually surprised at the final score. But he kept
us in the game.”
The Cubs starter James Russell did not perform like a game winner as he allowed four runs on five hits including four earned runs and had four strike-outs in four inning pitches.
