Todd Wells wins the US Cross Country National Championships 2012
Todd Wells of Team Specialized Racing wins the US short track championships after his tremendous performance during the event.
He crossed the finish line in a quickest time of 29 minutes and 46 seconds and restricted his major opponents.
Jeremiah Bishop of Team Cannondale Factory Racing finished 16 seconds behind at the second position with Adam Craig of Rabobank/Giant Offroad Team and Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski of Team Subaru finishes at the third and the fourth positions respectively.
Wells noted after crossing the finish line, "I was disappointed yesterday after the flat tire. [Sam] Schultz and I had been going back and forth and to not have a chance to race for it at the end sucked."
"I knew I had good form after last weekend and yesterday, and warming up today I felt like I had good legs".
"This short track does not have much passing and is very dusty, so just going out front is a good tactic," said Wells.
"Last year, I also had good form and led the whole race until the finish, and I wasn't going to do that this year”.
Ryan Trebon of Team Cannondale Factory Racing was a pre-race favourite and he was disappointed after missing out the top podium spot.
Trebon was unlucky after the chain fell off his bike and he wasted a significant amount of time in getting in back.
Adam Craig of Team Rabobank, Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski of Team Subaru-Trek and Jeremiah Bishop of Team Cannondale crossed Ryan and emerged as a major podium contender.
Bishop took a little too long before launching his attack which cost him the first position. He admitted that the fact that the attack should have been launched at least one lap earlier.
He fell 16 seconds short to the Team Specialized Racing cyclist and had to settle for the second spot.
