Todd Woodbridge advises Bernard Tomic to adopt a serious behaviour – Tennis News
Ranked world number 52nd in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Bernard Tomic, was removed from the Davis Cup team due to his questionable behaviour as tennis professional.
Former Australian player, Todd Woodbridge helped Tomic with some emotional guidance, aiming to benefit him in the end.
Woodbridge told the media in an interview, “Look, everyone knows his issues. It's time for him to focus on playing well this summer and doing what he's done for the last couple of years here. That's what everyone likes to see, that's what makes him famous.
All those things are done by the racquet, not by things elsewhere. In terms of the tough love, it's to help him, to give him a realisation of what he needs to focus on. It's also not just for Bernard, it's for all our playing group to understand we have expectations
of their behaviours and their ethic on court, their competitive natures.”
Due to the player’s careless behaviour, the Australian head of tennis professionals believes that Tomic needs to adopt more serious game plan if he intends to continue as tennis professional. This also brought concern to Sam Stosur for her junior compatriot.
She requested him to become serious and mature himself, as such accusations will hinder in his progress in the competitive tennis.
The 20-year-old, Tomic, is one of the most remarkable tennis players in Australia, having the potential to become the world players. He rallied past the American professional Mardy Fish in the final round of the AAMI Classic held at the hard courts of Kooyong.
At the Australian Open Grand Slam, Tomic encountered a three set loss at the hands of his super senior, Roger Federer in the fourth round.
His performance was satisfactory for the clay court tournaments, making it to the second round of most of the clay court tournaments such as Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters, Open Sabadell Atlántico and Internazionali BNL d’Italia. At the French Open, he bagged
home an unexpected loss at the hands of the Kazakh, Mikhail Kukushkin.
At the green grass courts of England, he suffered a heavy loss at the hands of the David Goffin. His performance at the US Open has comparatively better. However, he can surely improve himself if he intends to focus.
