Toddler diarrhea...?

My daughter has just turned a year old and has her first case of diarrhea. It started last Friday and her stools were very runny and she was going several times a day and did not want to eat anything. We took her in to see her pediatrician after two days of dealing with it. He said that since she wasn't vomiting or running a fever to just try to fight it with plenty of fluids and diet changes, and to try pedialyte. It has been a couple more days and her stools are being more solid now, which is good, however she is still going everytime she eats anything. Pretty much as soon as she gets done eating, within an hour or so her diaper is full again. We have only been giving her yogurt, bannanas, plain pasta, baby cerel ,etc. It is a little more solid, not runny or anything, but everything we put in is still coming back out…would that still be considered diarrhea?? Anyone else experience anything similar and how long did it take to go away? Thanks!

  1. 1. See a doctor, no matter what anyone on this website tells you.

    2. Keep your child hydrated.

    3. try a "B.R.A.T." diet...what we give children with diarrhea in the hospital. BRAT stands for Bananas, Rice (or rice cereal, no milk) Applesauce, and Toast (no butter)

    4. LOTS OF CLEAR FLUIDS! (fluids you can see through)

  2. Both my kids just got over a virus that sounds just like this.  They each had it for a little over a week.  I thought it would never end, but it did.

Our pediatrician told us the same as yours.  We just had to wait it out and keep them hydrated.

  3. Go to this website:

    http://www.nationwidechildrens.org/GD/Te...

    and read these...

    What is "toddler's diarrhea"?

How is persistent diarrhea and malabsorption treated?

You need to consult your physician.  :)

  4. Yes, my toddler had something similar which lasted a little over a week.  Keep the diet bland, breads, pasta, cereal, etc.  I would scale back on the yougurt and bananas, they tend to make the stool more loose.

  5. my son did this and i took him to the doc . he checked him over and seen that the rest of his molars and "i " teeth were coming in . he told me that was the cause of the no eating and diarrehea . after about a weekit went away . i just made sure he had plenty of fluids and had no fever .

  6. you should call a freind who might of experienced this before with his/her baby
