Question:

Toddler injury or not??

My 1 year old toddler fell about 4 ft. down when he was around 7 months but he did not bleed or swell so we did not take it so serious. Now he seems to have trouble talking, and teething, and growing to his appropriate height. Could the fall be what affected this or something else?

  1. I seriously doubt that  a fall affected his teething! Or growth.  If he had a tramatic brain injury you would have noticed that he was unconcious, dialated eyes, extremely sleepy etc.

Why dont you go to the doctor and ask though? If he is having a "failure to thrive" it may be due to something else- he may not be able to process food well or he may have some other type of condition.

He could also be perfectly normal  ( I am betting he is) and you could be a perfectly normal mom who is worried because that is what we do!

  2. You should have him examined by his pediatrician and explain to him your concerns and he should run the appropriate tests. Good Luck

  3. My oldest child did not get her first tooth until her 1st birthday, was small in weight and height, and had no interest in walking. She also had a fall and I panicked that it was the cause of her late development!  I asked the doctor, he checked her out even more thoroughly and pronounced her just fine. She is now turning 18 years old, a straight A student and a little on the short side at 5'3". Perfectly normal.

Just ask the doctor and put your fears to rest!

  4. Talk to your pediatrician if this concerns you so much. Kids fall all the time. The typical rule is if a child falls from more than 2x the height the child must get checked out. Five months ago.

The child might just be developing normally .

    Follow your GUT feeling.

    Good luck

    Hope things turnout fine.
