My friends son is 25 months old and is totally obsesses with balls.( the toy kind). He will steal and fight any kid who has one. If he has his own he will stay away from kids so they don't take his. If he takes the ball from someone he will fight, bite, or scream, cry (also major tantrums : like throwing himself on the floor)at anyone who tries to take them away. He doesn't always play with them when he gets the ball,he just holds them. He also has this same obsession with ballons. Now I DO know he has no other obession like some kids do with pacifers, blankets, or cuddle stuff animals, so could this be his? Is this normal behavior for at 25 mnth old?

P.s. other than this he is a good , normal kid. I just know that when he come to visit, to avoid conflict, to hide all the balls and ballons or anything that looks like a ball or ballon (such as a play apple).

  1. Hello,

Yes, definitely sounds like normal toddler behavior. I think I heard a saying once:

Everything I have is mine. Everything you have is mine.

This is the way a toddler thinks. He feels the world belongs to him, and he is the center of it.

  2. that brings back memories of my kids' !  it's totally normal !

  3. It is not normal for a 25 month old to fight other kids for toys.  Your friend needs to learn how to be a better parent, because it sounds like he is doing a pretty poor job at raising his son.

  4. this is soo normal, every kid has thier normal obsession

  5. No kids always do that. . .

  6. lol its normal, my son is obsessed with cars, i mean the movie cars and hot wheels cars. after he saw the movie he wants nuthing else but them. but also it sounds like he has a issue where hes jealous that if he doesnt *** with a ball and he sees another child with one, he will feel left out, so try with him a ball in hand when the other kids have one, and see how that goes. if not then tell him that those are the other childrens balls and not yours, that you have to share. he will understand what your saying

  7. Sounds normal to me.  My son is 24 months and is obsessed with trains.  Thomas and friends, real trains, any toy that looks like a train........

  8. This is TOTALLY normal.  I have a two year old boy that has the same kind of obsession with dinosaurs.  Anything that has a dinosaur on it.  He has to always wear a dino shirt, carry a dinosaur, and if another kid even LOOKS at his dinosaurs, he flips out.  Red flags for problems would be avoiding affection, no language skills, etc.  But it's really normal for two year olds to have a "thing".  It drives most parents crazy!  I know I get sick of dinosaurs!!  :)
