  1. C. with an explanation and keep it brief. Chances are he already knows he shouldn't draw on walls.

Then switch to D. when he ignores you, as there is a fifty percent chance he will do just that.

  2. Try B or C first, then if that doesn't work try D.

  3. c, but if that doesn't work, lets  direct him to something else to do

  4. None of them. The one-on-one attention is what he craves. And if he receives this, then he will do it repeatedly, much to your frustration.

If you use A: he is too little to help clean, and will probably refuse anyway. B: how does he truly know that? C: he obviously doesn't want to, he wants you to focus on him. D: temper tantrum time.

I personally would use a quiet redirect, ignoring the mess on the wall. Find an activity he can do away from the art table altogether. Engage him quickly in the alternate activity (as you are introducing the new activity, this would be a great time to discreetly remove the crayon from his hand while placing another object in it or within his grasp), and then move on to pay attention to the children actually using the crayon the correct way. Make sure to praise the other children in an obvious manner for using the crayon correctly.

After a few minutes, if you see his attention is still drawn to the art table, you can invite him back to try again. It would be then that I would say "let's draw on this pretty paper now and you can take it home to mommy (or daddy). I bet they will love it!" Make sure to give him a bit of extra attention for his new, proper use of the crayon.

Don't be surprised if he tries it again. He is testing you to make sure he receives the same response from you. You need to make sure he does.

Hope this helps a little and good luck! :)

  5. c. but then you would have to tell him why such as, we use crayons only on paper...
