  1. He needs to go for a development assessment and/then probably speech therapy, my son doesn't speak at all yet, he is 2 yrs and 8 mths, we are currently being assessed for possible autism, don't delay, if there is a problem the sooner you find out the more can be done to help. Best wishes.

  2. go to your gp or speak to your health visitor and ask if he can be referred to a speech therapist if hes at nursery they will also sort it for you good luck x

  3. u need to go to the doctors and then u might get refereed to a speech therapist. my brother only spoke 3 words when he was 4 and there are many ways to improve his speech.

  4. I am a mom to three children.  Two boys aged 7 and 5 and a little girl under 1.   I teach pre-school and I want to not worry.   Go have your son's hearing checked and talk to a pedi / doctor asap.   But just interact and play with your son.  Try to limit his tv time to after dinner or a hour a day.  But please do not worry if he has delay's in speech.   Once they start school boys tend to advance.   Also do not repeat the "kiddish/baby talk"  If he says NaNa for bananna repeat back to him do you want a bananna ?

Good luck to you and your family.

  5. i would speak to his doctor about that, and get him away from the t.v. and engage in some reading and conversation with him, some boys are late with everything but you should have him checked out!

  6. I'm a teacher.  Motivate him.  If he wants something like candy, foods, or watch something on TV.  Tell him that you want to talk first.  If he pronounces correctly and he is able to make an accurate sentence (according to his age) then you know he is able to do it.  Find the reason he's calling attention through that.  However, if he's not able by any means of motivation... you might need to consult with a language professional.

  7. Have his hearing checked. Contact your Pediatrician to see if he/she recommends and Audiologist.

    Good Luck

  8. First off get away from the TV children need to have interaction with adults and other children in order to learn new words.

get him in preschool if he isn't allready

go see your doctor and check his hearing

get some flash cards (or make your own with magazine cut outs) start practicing words like names of animals,  foods, names of people in your family.... and just other everyday objects

Try reading more books and try getting him involved in the story telling.... try brown bear brown bear..... things that he can participate in...

sing songs and make it fun do ones that involve movement and activity.... just get him involved and get him to use his words!

  9. You have gotten him into early intervention.  He's 3 now so you can talk to his school about providing speech therapy.

  10. is he in preschool yet? my daughter was like that until i enrolled her in preschool.(now she has a big vocabulary). believe it or not kids learn alot from other kids. don't worry i think he'll be fine.

  11. Take him to see his pediatrician. His doctor will be able to tell you if there are any developmental delays in your son's speech.  I'm sure he will tell you not to let him watch TV and you need more 1 on 1 time playing, reading and talking to him.  Good Luck!

  12. some of the answers given are good ideas to try with your child. some of the tv shows nowadays are interacitve so encourage some interaction and talk to him and not just ask him to do things. if he understands what is being said to him and he still isnt interested, we encourage sign language with our children.
