Question:

Toenail problem from football?

I play football around about 5-6 times a week, i encounter problems in my feet all the time and have seen the doctor countless number of times and he said i should rest but because of my college course i need to play all the time. I was having a 7 aside match and i felt a pain in my foot, afterwards i got home and i noticed that my toenail cracked. The wierd thing was that the bottom half had completely gone and the upper half was loose and about to come off. I took it off because of the pain when wearing footwear.

Now after about 4 weeks my toe still seems to be swolen and around the nail i keep getting blisters and this toenail feels like it might come off. What i wanted to know is, should i see a doctor about this or is it normal for a toenail to get problems like this after it has fallen off?

  1. you should definately see a doctor!! You don't want to get an infection! For now put some anibiotic ointment on it or some iodine solution and put a band aid over it. Also make sure your shoes aren't like too tight or something and properly fit. Definately get it checked out soon you don't want to get an infection on it because it can spread to the rest of the body which you need to get antibiotics for to prevent it. Good luck and keep it clean untill you see a doctor.

  2. this happened to me, but i didnt take the nail off i just left it and i experience slight pain while walking but no blisters ;) i think it might've been better to leave the nail on. my toenail grew back in about 6 months.
