Tofu recipe please!!! Is it possible to make it taste good?

I just made tofu for the first time. I marinated it and fried it. The consistency was great, but the flavor was awful. Can you please tell me what you do to make it good? Please include all details from the time you open the package until it hits the plate...also include what you make with it.

The recipe should be vegan and thank you sooo much! I don't want another repeat of tonight.

  1. Whatever recipie you choose, remember to add plenty of salt to taste.  Tofu has 30mg of salt or so per serving so pump that up.

I like to grill it in a pan w/ olive oil till it's golden brown, stir in chinese stir fry vegetables, and pour sweet and sour sauce over it and then serve w/ pineapple slices.  It's also good to marinate it in the fridge w/ BBQ sauce I like the hickory smoke flavor, marinate at least one hour sprinkle w/ onion flakes and then bake in the oven @ 350 for 1/2 hour and then slice it and serve it on kaiser rolls as a bbq sandwich

  3. Microwave the tofu till its hot,  don't overdo it.

    then add a dash of oyster sauce then pour some olive oil over it.

    Simple but nice.

    Maybe substitute the oyster sauce with fake oyster sauce or soy sauce, but anyway , try it out.

  4. Tofu will take on the taste of just about anything.  You just need a good marinade.

    This recipe has terrific flavors, and even open minded meat eaters have been known to eat this at barbecues!

    Barbecued Tofu

        * 1 pound extra firm tofu, well pressed and sliced into 3/4 inch rectangles

        * 3/4 cup barbecue sauce

        * 3/4 cup brown sugar

        * 1 tsp chili powder

        * 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes

        * 3/4 cup orange juice concentrate

        * salt and pepper to taste

    Whisk together the barbecue sauce, sugar, chili powder, pepper and orange juice over medium low heat about 3 minutes.

    Place the barbecue sauce mixture in a wide flat dish, and place the tofu in the sauce, coating both sides well.

    Allow to marinate for at least two hours.

    Grill for 4 or 5 minutes on each side, brushing with additional sauce.

    Sprinkle with salt and pepper just before serving.
