Question:

Toilet Roll etiquette? Should the loose end hang over the front, or from behind. And why?

I have been asking for years. The forward/backward hang is about 50/50, but nobody has ever given a really good explanation why?

  1. I say forward toward you, because otherwise you more than likely have to touch the wall to grab the paper. Therefore picking up germs from other people who have done the same...

  2. Forward

This from the days of outside toilets. If you hung the paper backward you would get spiders o it - not nice to wip e your bum with.

  3. front, its easier to pull from the front part then the back, if that makes sense.

  4. The loose end must ALWAYS hang from behind.  The other way is just vulgar.  Ask Miss Manners and she will explain all the niceties to you.  Many people in USA have (apparently) written to her about this 'problem' and that is her advice.  Fortunately, I have lost her name, address, website, etc.

  5. lol it ends up in a toilet! lol does that not tell you people about the importance of it?

  6. I think this was actually quoted as a major difference between men and women and if you don't agree in a relationship, it's one of those things that niggle away.  Personally, i don't care, but behind seems neater.

  7. maybe its because there is no right or wrong answer because nobody cares

  8. When I was a nurse's aide I was taught to let the loose end hang in the front because of the risk of picking up germs the other way, from having people scrabbling at the wall with "toilet fingers" in order to unroll the paper.

  9. depends if you have kids or pets who like to play with things then over isn't the way to go.. you would end up with a mess.

under saves that roll  you can keep hitting it and it won't make a large mess. it will just flip onto it's self

now it is easier to find the end of the roll with it being over. so if you don't have anything like kids or pets then over is preferred because of that

  10. From behind, no reason other then aesthetics

  11. personally I prefer from the back

however if from the front you can make the point ready for guests to use the bathroom

but I really would go for from the back

but it isn't something to worry about either way

  12. It doesn't matter, but I think over the front is better.  When it is from behind, it has a tendency to unravel more toilet paper after your "pull and tear."

Then again, if you have a cat that likes to play "unravel the toilet paper," hanging it from the back would be better than hanging it from the front.
