Question:

Toilet cleaning: is that toilet brush sanitary?

I've never been able to really clean a toilet. I clean my entire house, but then skimp on the toilet because I'm grossed out. So, I'll ask, how nasty is it really to clean a toilet bowl? I mean, I get these picture of *things* splish-splashing all over the place and getting onto my face, and onto my hands, and it just creeps me out.

So for those that aren't too bothered by cleaning the toilet, how nasty is the process, really?

What about the toilet brush/scrubber? Is that thing sanitary? How often should it be replaced? I see people wash f***s from the side of the toilet with that thing, then just stick it in its holster. That's just gross.

  1. Hi, "ALWAYS" use rubber gloves, to start with. Use NABC commercial, toilet bowl cleaner, available at most sanitary cleaning supply stores. Flush toilet, apply a generous amount of NABC using a bristle type cleaning brush, inside and outside of toilet bowl. Wipe outside of bowl with paper towels and toss towels away. A NOTE... USE DISPOSABLE GLOVES!  Soak brush in bleach, rinse with hot water. Replace brush as needed. God Bless, ~PraisePink~

  2. Personally I use clorox toilet bowl cleaner. I'm sure that any germ that's in my toilet gets killed by the bleach. Then I rinse my toilet bowl brush in super hot water. Then I spray down my sink with Lysol.

They have done studies over the years showing that there are more germs on a computer keyboard than in the toilet.

  3. It is gross but it's less gross if you do it often. This is what I do: Pour toilet bowl cleaner or bleach in there andl let it sit for about 30 minutes so the toilet smell is overtaken with disinfectant. Then I get my long handled toilet brush and scrub hard enough to be affective but not so hard to splash the scum around. Flush, rinse the brush in the blue 1000 flushes disinfectant that comes out and then put it away under my cabinet in a special bucket that doesnt touch anything else. Its really not that bad, and like i said, the more you do it, the less gross it is..

  4. oh for petes sakes suck it up or c**p in a bag

buy some lysol toilet bowl cleaner and a soft brush at the dollar store

put the cleaner in the toilet...swish it with the brush..rinse brush off and flush toilet

clean the rest of the toilet with lysol disposable wipes

you think doing your own is horrible..try doing it for a living...not everyone poos nicely

  5. I know exacly what you mean by that... I bought me some of those latex disposable gloves like dr.s use , and one of those toilet wand things that you push the trigger button thing and it releases the cleaning pad thing and it is flushable so it never goes in your trash can , and as for the gloves just take them off never touching the outside and throw them in a  plastic bag and tie it up and throw it in the big trash can ..... that is what i do  and i hated cleaning the toilet before i got the flushable toilet cleaner thing and i cant even think of the name of it  but  google them and you can find some coupons to get a free one or money off them

  6. i thought i was the only one! i hate cleaning my toilet... i'm the only one who uses it so its not a big deal but i just usually just put some bleach in the bowl and clean it. the bleach will disinfect the bowl and the brush and after your done flush the toilet with the brush in the bowl so all the nasty stuff will come off...

oh yea if you are careful enough the water wont splash on you and trust that isn't something you want to happen...

  7. You're kidding, right?   Just wash the d**n thing.  It's not going to bite you.   A spray bottle of bleach, a can of AJAX or Comet, and scrub inside, flush and spray outside, rinse with cleanig rag rinsed out with hot water.   Clean all around underneath the tank too.  An old toothbrush gets the hinges spotless.  A little bleach kills ALL the germs.   Don't forget to wash the walls  next to the toilet too.

As far as putting a dirty bowl brush away that's done by filthy people.  Your choice.

  8. i understand u hate it but for me strangley, i think its fun ;] u dont have to brush hard that it splashes. but a toilet brush is sanitary for ur toilet because it can reach up to the toilet seat and u mite get infected. i know u hate it, but u sorta have to suck it up. my mom doesnt replace our toilet brush, just the thing u clean the toilet with. i think once the toilet brush is REALLY dirty, u have to replace it. hope i helped!!!!  and u clean the toilet when everythings flushed down, so dont worry about those "things" splashing! just water ;]

  9. If you use a toilet brush, you should give it a soak in a bucket outside flled with 1 cup bleach and three cups water to get it clean. I don't use the toilet brushes as they do have a tendency to spatter water whilst cleaning. Think about a bristle tooth brush that has water on it and then run your finger over the bristles...it will cause a bit of spattering. I use rubber gloves and a pair of those body scrubbing gloves over those to really scrub the rubber gloves. Then wash them in with the white clothes using bleach to make them sanitary for the next time. As for imagining things going flying, it has been proven in laboratory testing that when the toilet flushes, it sends out an aerosol spray of f***s, urine and water within six feet of the lavatory. Everything within six feet of the lavatory is essentially being sprayed with f***s every time it flushes.

  10. use gloves and a mask. wear old clothes and go to town. you have got to do it.

  11. You know what, I find cleaning the bathroom so gross as well. Luckily there are so many new products that help you clean your bathroom so much easier then when our parents used to. We can clean the toilet and not touch the toilet and yes that toilet brush is unsanitary. So here are some ideas and some sites.

1.) You can buy those long rubber gloves just so you don't  feel icky about getting anything on  your hands. I like to use the long ones , the thick long ones if you can find em .

2.)  Walk through your cleaning isles in different supermarkets and stores. Pathmark,Keyfoods,Met foods, pioneers,CVS,RITE AID, DUANE READE, TARGET,KMART,WALMART.

Scrubbing bubbles is the best one, you can flush the thing down the toilet after you use it. It's a little sponge attached to a stick, You clean the toilet with it and then click a little button on the side of the stick and flush it away when done!!! They have some pretty awesome stuff to clean the shower as well, it is called the automatic shower cleaner. It's great. It cleans the shower for you, it sprays out a cleaner on all the walls left and right and down and up . Anyways I really hope these tools become useful.

  12. You should be wearing rubber gloves in the first place,if you never clean it what do you think it will smell and look like? They have this new gadget with a long handle and a disposable attachable piece just for cleaning the toilet.Ask at wal-mart or walgreens,or even k-mart or target, they'll know exactly what you need

  13. Stand back. Flush the toilet with the lid down always first of all. When you squirt that stuff (you do have gloves on, right?) GENTLY scrub using the brush. Right after run it under very hot water in the tub and give it a firm shake (not too hard.)

Flush the toilet with the lid down. Once you're done with the inside of the bowl wipe down the outside with the throwaway wipes.

Take the brush and if it's rusted and old get a new one. If it still looks good bring it back to the tub and sprinkle it and the holder with Ajax. Rub it down with a sponge or gloved hands.

Rinse the holder after rubbing that with a sponge. Rinse.

Finally wash the tub with the leftover Ajax.

Don't be grossed out anymore. You've cleaned everything that touched it.

Next time you could also put in a 2000 Flushes or the Never Scrub in the tank. You won't have to brush it much.
