Question:

Toilet doesn't fill with enough water in the bowl. Is my tank flap closing too soon?

When I flush my toilet the contents of the toilet are not completely flushed out and the amount of incoming water is pretty low. I think the flap inside the tank that controls the outgoing water closes really fast. Is the water supposed to completely be gone before the flap closes or is there still supposed to be some water in the tank?

  1. From the fill valve, the plastic thing that the float connects to in your tank, is a tube that goes to the flapper pole,,,,this tube runs water into the bowl when the tank is filling.  Make sure it is in the tube that holds the flapper.

When the tank flap closes after a flush, the remaining water in the bowl is pulled out by a siphon action.  It's supposed to do that.

Check the tube, and report back.

  2. Yeah you can adjust the float in the tank to justify how much water is going in and going out. Also adjust the flap string and put it higer on the pole.

  3. It does sound like your flapper is closing too soon.  If there is a chain that connects the flapper to the arm you should be able to just shorten the chain.  It is normal to have some water in the tank at all times.
