Question:

Toilet flush valve gasket question?

I installed a new american standard cadet 3 2-piece toilet. The flush valve gasket between the tank and bowl didn't want to set correctly since it was bigger than the space it fits in. I used some liquid soap to get it to slip in better. My question is whether the soap might be bad for the rubber and deteriorate it? I could disassemble it, rinse it, and use some other lubricant if it's worth the effort.

  1. Does it leak? If not then your done.

  2. great idea, I'm going to use it next time I have the job.  Soap is a great lubricant.  You did good and it won't, truly won't hurt anything.  My wife insists I use it on screws because her father used it and I do and I'm amazed at how soap makes them easier to slip in.

  3. The chlorine in the water will destroy it long before the soap ever would.

  4. with all the water going through there , the soap should now been dissolved, if it's not broke, don't fix
