Toilet installation ,can bowl bolts to floor be

toilet installation ,I shimmed the bowl and leveled it good and sealed it around the bottom with the white caulking sealer everything is working fine can the bowl hold down bolts to floor to the bowl on the very bottom be re tightened just a 1/4 of a turn after a week or 2 of it all settling in? or not necessary

  1. you want the toilet snug so it does not move but you have to be careful with that wrench and not overtighten it--else the thing will crack.

    So you first snug it down on installation and then you check it in a day or 2. the bowl wont crack that easily--you have to tighten it pretty good to cause any problems.

    The caulking sealer BTW is just to keep the water from the shower and mopping from getting under the bowl.


  2. As long as the toilet is steady and doesn't move during use, then do not tighten bolts any further. You may break the toilet if you over tighten the bolts.

  3. It should be tighten to prevent any movement.

  4. I hope you put a Wax Ring around the opening in the floor first.

    Set the Toilet on carefully so not to damage the Wax Ring and then

    bolt the Toilet down carefully.
