Toilet still running. Changed everything out and it won't stop running!?

Okay, I have put in a new valve assembly and a new flapper. The flapper is seated and no water is seeping into the bowl so the flapper is sealing okay. The new valve seems to go up and down fine and it half way shuts off, but still keeps hissing. The water keeps filling and covers the valve cup, and then spills into the overflow. Any ideas? It's driving me nuts!!!!!!!!!

  1. it wont shut off at all? even if you pull the float up? maybe you got a bad fill valve. take it back and get a new one

  2. If the sound of running water continues after you have adjusted the float ball and the lift wire, check the overflow pipe.

If water is flowing into the overflow pipe, adjust the ballcock to lower the water level in the tank.

If the problem persists, repair or replace the ballcock.

If water is not flowing into the overflow pipe, check the tank ball or flapper for wear, and replace it, if necessary.

If the problem persists, replace the flush valve.

  3. What kind of fill valve do you have or put in, does it have a float ball with a metal rod?  Take that thing out and go get a fluidmaster...but sounds like you have the type with a float ball and it needs to be adjusted properly.  Try adjusting the float to get the water to turn off.  Can  you pull up on the float and will the water turn off?

  4. your float is touching the side of the cistern if you put a piece of foam piece of old sponge will do between the float spindle and the tank it should solve the problem.. what is happening is you have tightened the nut just off centre if you loosen the nut slightly then turn the ball valve system very slightly then test ball movement to see if it runs free if so retighten nut while holding the ball system tight dont overtighten the nut its not the titanic your trying to float ha ha hope this helps ive installed loads of them with same problem. good luck
