Question:

Toilet training a 22 month old?

I've been toilet training my baby since she was 18 months. She was doing very well and would let me know if she wanted to go potty. But lately she refuses to sit on the potty seat, and very soon will create a puddle on the floor . Its getting frustrating. I have started with diapers all over again. But she doesn't tell me anymore if she wants to go pee. She happily relieves herself in her diaper. If i pick her up periodically and ask her to sit in the potty, she refuses.

She started play school last week. But this problem has been going on for 3 weeks or so now.

  1. She might be a little bit frustrated if you are pressuring not that you are lay off a bit on the potty training and tell her that if she ever needs help or encouragement tell her you will ALWAYS be there for her. Hoped I helped.

  2. I found that starting my son early caused a few problems later on.

However don't dis-pare, leave a potty (or several) around the house and allow her to walk around with no Nappie or with some knickers on.

Praise her lots when she manages to go on the potty and make her feel likes she's a big girl by going 'Knicker shopping' ( my son loved picking his new pants and loved strutting round in them)

Potty training is a slow process but don't give up you'll both get it right soon enough.

  3. I started potty training my daughter at 13mths, just putting her on after sleep, taking it slowly and teaching her the words she needed to ask and then basically let her lead from there. She was doing quite well but at 16mths totally went off it, asked or wanted her nappies and I backed off rather than got stressed and waited for her to start asking again, which she did, and then at about 22mths something just clicked and she has been 100% nappy-free now with no accidents for about 3 weeks (I do still put a night nappy on though)...

Anyhow, the morale is: Don't stress and don't push. She's still young by most potty-training standards so you have time to ease off and wait a couple of days to see if she is interested again. Just make sure you give MASSIVE praise when she goes (I run around the room clapping and whooping) and I bet you she'll reach that 'just clicked' stage in no time!

And a last word on play groups/schools...that is my daughters weakness as they're so busy and fun they can forget to ask (and if she's back in nappies she's going to be getting signals that its ok not to ask) so the teachers/leaders need to make sure they ask her if she wants to go and take her anyways if she hasn't been for an hour or so! My daughter loves washing her hands so I use that as an incentive at play groups to take her.

  4. i know its very frustrating but with our patience      and love we can win .she rufused but you daily try to sit her on seat .and in school when she will see other gls/boys she will learn more .

  5. I started my son around 19 months and after a few weeks he did exactly what your daughter is doing.. I gave up and figured he wasn't ready yet and now he is 28 months and 2 weeks of potty training him he is now fully potty trained.

  6. stop for about 2 weeks and then start potty training again. Right now it is like a punishment for her, so wait for a while and then start again

  7. She is too young. Wait till after she turns 2. Too many parents push potty training for their own convenience. Starting potty training a baby at 17/18 months as the last generation did it no longer recommended.

Just give her a little more time. If it is frustrating to you, it is too soon for her.
