training our cat to use a human toilet, been at it for a little over a month. she goes in a bowl in the toilet just fine, but the next steps have been tough. one tip said put cardboard with a small hole over the whole bowl, and she went on the cardboard not in the hole. Another said fill the bowl with water and she drank the water and wouldnt go in it. Now we have cut the bottom out of the bowl, but she hasn't gone yet, and shes pooping on the floor. Any tips?

  1. I have seen this on youtube and I think it is great! I know the actual training kit comes with a plastic piece that you put in the lid part and put litter in it - after awhile you cut the hole out larger and larger until no more litter remains or plastic. then they will balance on the lid itself! takes up to 2-6 months depending on the kitty! Good luck and try youtube etc or  www.karawynn.net/mishacat/toilet.html

  2. Hey. This is your cat so you can do what you want with it. I read that you are suppose to move the litter box by the toilet and eventually move it inch by inch. Like sit a few books under it for a few weeks. Also you have to make sure that your cat doesn't mind the sound of the toilet flushing. Try sprinkling cat nip on the seat and petting your cat as you flush the toilet. I think if they can get past the sound..than them going to the bathroom will be a sinch. But yeah try the book thing and move it up inch by inch until its the hieight of the toilet. There should be plenty of stuff online, but I have never tried it. You will save loads in litter though. goodluck.

    This is a good site.

  3. Hi Katy...because every cat is a bit different when it comes to defecating it is okay to experiment with different methods to help encourage the foot positioning.  Some cats need an empty bowl with a smaller hole in diameter and then increase the hole gradually each time you believe she is feeling more confident.

Here's a cat toilet training group where others can help exchange more helpful tips for each stage you come across: http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/CatsT...

  4. the late Charles Mingus (jazz) has a great website that shows you how. Step 2 is place brown paper bag layer over hole. lid down. step 3 cut an X-hole in the paper. step 4 remove paper -cat perches on seat.
