I collapsed in work last week and was brought to hospital after varios blood tests..my doctor told me about the traces of drugs found in my blood and he said that i was taking too much..my manager asked me the next day and when i told her i couldn't because it was inside work, she said it was lunchtime and because i've told her stuff before...so i told her about the drugs and i said it was at the weekend. she advised me to get off them, i swore that i was giving them up and i made her swear that she wouldn't repeat what i told her.. i told her that if she told anyone i would deny it anyway.. my question is do you think she will tell and if she does...does this effect my job in any way even though it wasn't on the premises..a colleague told me that he smokes weed and is petrified in case the boss finds out..how does this effect me??

  1. I do not know what you mean with the word drugs.

But if it something which is forbidden, an if you used  it at work or has been influenced of it at work, this is no good. I do not know the laws protecting employees in your country, but in my country persons could get in trouble in your situation. Usually people gets warnings, and it is very important to follow them.

  2. It depends on your job - if you are a train driver for example you could be sacked immediately, but in all honesty if everyone who smoked a bit of weed was sacked the UK workforce would suddenly become a lot smaller.

I wouldn't worry too much, but if it is affecting your work maybe you need to cut down.

  3. There's a pretty good chance that if it does get to your boss, that you may be terminated. Even though you did it when you weren't at work, they affected your ability at work. And they might see you as a potential danger because you had collapsed on work premises. They will see that as a potential danger to the company.

  4. You don't say what it is that you do.

If you were that worried, why did you tell her?

She's right. Stop taking them. Drugs are poison, physically and mentally. Just look at how paranoid you are right now.

As to whether or not you will lose your job? Don't know I'm afraid. I can't speak for your boss. But it would come down to your word against your managers. Who do you think your boss is likely to believe?

  5. I don't care if you stack shelves or pilot a plane...the risk to yourself is one thing but you work with other people and this could simply be dangerous for others. Do you drive to work? God! This is your livelihood! Begging someone not to tell strikes me that you need to mature quickly! If you have an addiction problem seek help, and be seen to do so. If this is one of those recreational, that's what young people do things well, get on with it, and when you come across an employer who is usually my generation who tells you no thanks I would rather take on the kid who is not 'whizzing' on some substance or other, accept it!

  6. Being under the influence would affect your job if you were on the premises under the influence but if you'd completely got rid of any drugs before coming into work they cannot sack you as what you do in your free time is up to you. As long as you don't go into work under the influence she can't sack you.

  7. you collapsed in work so yes they could sack you on health and safety grounds you can deny what you told the girl at work but they can ask to see your doctor about the reasons why you collapsed.

don't be silly stop the drugs

  8. if only paranoia  wasn't a side effect of drugs eh.

  9. Depends how much you trust this woman.  Hopefully she will keep your secret but you must realise you have put her in a VERY awkward position.  To be fair to her you MUST stop taking the drugs because they ARE affecting your work.  If I were your manager I would be very worried that if you did it again I would then have to come clean and say that I knew about it earlier and did nothing about it.  For her peace of mind, don't take the drugs and collapse at work again.  If you are a complete addict and can't get off the drugs, tell her formally so she doesn't lose her job when you do.  You are on a slippery slope my friend.

  10. If the drugs affect your work or put you or your colleagues in danger at work then yes, they can dismiss you.

if you fainted at work because you were under the influence of drugs you can get the sack

your empolyer is entitled to ask a doctor to examine you.

best you check out your employer's handbook.

  11. You might both get sacked. It rather depends what your job is - but if an accident at work occurred, that was related to drug taking, you and anyone who was covering up for you could find themselves in hot water. Best thing is to stop taking the drugs!

  12. grassin you up ultimately will be the best way forward to help you with your problem hopefully .....before it's too late

  13. It might help if you eased up a bit as it's now affecting your work. If it became a regular problem they might well part company with you and I don't think you need that.
