How is the toleration of the oppression of women functional for terrorist?

The oppression of women is advantageous (functional) for a terrorist because most terrorists are men.  This helps to conform a family unit to a very traditional (without making any kind of positive value judgment) way of life.  It allows for perpetuation of a genetic line (kids can be raised by a mother), a breadwinner to work (terrorists don't just blow themselves up, many have other jobs or work in fundraising for their organization), and also perpetuates ideologies decided on by the man of the house.  This allows the ideals of the father to be imparted onto the children through the mother (similarly as was seen in early prarie life in the US where the mother would teach the kids the bible [I make no effort at aligning terrorism with christianity]).

To answer your question, you really just need to look at from a conflict perspective about the oppression of women generally and women in the home.  Who ultimately benefits and exerts overarching control?  The men of course.  This is why men are in control of religious organizations around the world...  That's a long topic.  I hope that helps.
