Toll how fast can you go?

i was on a toll road my son says there is no speed limit is this true?

he has told me because you pay to go on you can go as fast as you like is this true or is he pulling my leg??

  1. No its not true.  The national speed limit applies.


  2. the myth is that as toll roads are privately owned there is no speed limit.  this however is not true.  70mph limit applies.

  3. Toll roads even if privately owned are still public roads on public land.

    They are not owned by the companies concerned. Those companies have been given [say 20 years] to collect money then it reverts to public ownership.

    In the same way that the railway network is still public, but privately run. [isn't life complicated]

    The 70 mph still applies.

    On a piece of private land [race track for instance] this is private and not public highway and no speed limit applies.

    If you want to do 130 mph have a day out at Brands Hatch or Silverstone, they both do private racing sessions for members of the public. [they supply the cars too]

  4. Where? In the Uk it will be limited to the National limit; 70 if a Motorway or dual carriageway with a divider, 60 otherwise.
